'Estampas de Zarzuela' (Zarzuela's Scenes),  is a musical show that will present a selection of the most well-known romances and duets of the beautiful zarzuelas  'Luisa Fernanda'  and 'Las Leandras' from Spain, among other surprises from the genre. Zarzuela is a Spanish lyric-dramatic genre that alternates between spoken and sung scenes, the latter incorporating operatic and popular song, as well as dance. The etymology of the name is not totally certain, but some propose it may derive from the name of a Royal hunting lodge, the Palacio de la Zarzuela near Madrid, where, allegedly, this type of entertainment was first presented to the court.

Luisa Fernanda is in many ways the last great romantic zarzuela. First seen at Madrid's Teatro Calderón on 26th March 1932, it owes something to the earlier masters of zarzuela grande and género chico. Musically Luisa Fernanda embodies its composer's ideals of El casticismo - an attempt to foster the tradition of pure, popular nationalism, of which Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez was to be the most famous example. Torroba's music certainly offers colorful Spanish charm, as well as fair helpings of graceful Viennese musical comedy and Italian operatic verismo. His musical personality may be elusive, but Torroba's melodies are consistently memorable and his theatrical instinct never falters.

Las Leandras is a popular Spanish zarzuela written by Francisco Alonso. Set in turn-of-the-century Madrid, the story depicts the confusing situation of a new tenant who rents a vacated space at a former house of “dubious encounters”. Unaware of the room's history, the new tenant establishes an Educational Institute for Young and Proper Girls that is regularly frequented by customers of the former tenant, resulting in chaos and confusion.

The all-star cast is made up of sopranos Hilda del Castillo, Yetzabel Arias (from Accademia Internazionale della Musica di Milano) and Raquel Rubi, tenors Jose Antonio Navarro and Jesus Brañas, baritones Giancarlo Brunet and Nelson Martínez (from Florida Grand Opera), among others.All accompanied by the exceptional musicians of the Miami Chamber Players.
